Within the design and architectural community, Gill Lui has also collaborated with several clients, creating site-specific installation of photographic glass and, in 2008, a light illuminated glass-etched wall in collaboration and Daniel Libeskind studios in The Denver Art Museum complex.

Gill Lui’s work as a conceptualist with abstract collages investigates the relationship between spirituality, human consciousness and scientific theories in the fields of physics and fractal geometry. The works of Gill Lui span the years 1980 to 2000 include an overview of the aesthetics of architecture in 20th century museums titled closed Mondays (Nazraeli Press 1999) and a book about the United States Air Force Academy called Spirit and Flight, a photographic monograph that documents the architectural style of American embassies in 52 nations around the world, titled Building Diplomacy (Cornell University Press 2005) as well as an extensive examination of the connection between spirituality and scientific natural order entitled”The Horizon Within.” Horizon Within.

As a Fine Arts minor studying fine arts at Colorado College, Gill Lui was creating extremely detailed and graphic engraving and lithography, however, in her late 20s, she was exploring printing with photography. Following a tragic car crash that occurred in 1979, the artist committed herself to her work by pursuing a master’s level in photography of architecture at Harvard. However, Gill Lui’s love for life in the art of photography began at a much earlier time. She remembers taking her first architectural photo at the age of 10: Tudor architecture of the school she attended as a boarding student in London.

As an artist-in-residence at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 1995 until in 2006, Gill Lii recorded Chinese traditional architecture of remote Southeastern China. The book that resulted from her research,”Open Hearts Open Doors: Reflections of China’s Future and Past (2008) released with Four Stops Press and distributed by Cornell University Press includes bi-lingual texts by architects, academics and historians, which includes Vincent Lo, Ho Puay Peng, Peter Wong and an epilogue written by architect I.M. Pei.
