Elis Paprika is one of the most popular and richest Singer-Songwriter who was born on May 8, 1980 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Elis is born Erika Elizabeth Nogues on the 8th of May the 8th of May, 1980. She was born at Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico as the third child in her family. As a young girl she was a trained Olympic gymnast, as well as dancer. Her father passed away at the age of 6. She relocated into Texas along with her parents when she was an teen in 1992, in which she stayed for a year. Her family and she moved back to Guadalajara in 1994, and then Elis moved to Mexico, Queretaro to stay at her aunt’s. Elis shortened her name to Elis after being after being inspired by Elis Regina.

Elis Paprika began performing at various venues, and then gained prominence in Guadalajara’s music scene. They performed at the Sol Radiante Festival, Zapopum Festival and also The Hard Rock Live at the Hard Rock Cafe Guadalajara on numerous occasions. It was during one of these shows that representatives of Suave Records became interested in Elis Paprika, signing them in 2005. Through Suave Records, Elis Paprika released the single”Give Me Love in 2006, composed by Luke Castillo and Richo Acosta and was licenseed by Sony Music Mexico for its distribution in Mexico.

The song “No Puedo” was released as the second single in October 2006. In November 2006 Julieta Venegas invited Elis Paprika to play on her first Auditorio Nacional performance in Mexico City.

The first single, “Give Me Love”, had a fast and big acceptance, and consequently Elis was invited to play at the Festival Vive Latino in 2006 and Corona Capital, also in 2006. In August of that same year, Elis Paprika was named “Band of the Month” on MTV. After this, MTV invited Elis Paprika to perform live for a recording of the program Alerta.

In February of 2004, Elis’ showed the demo of “Sunny Day”, to Luke Castillo, who was at the time playing guitar and singing in the group Becker. Luke liked the song and began working together and this was the moment that Elis Paprika was formally established in 2004 together with Luke Castillo on guitar, Richo Acosta on Guitar, Chumino on Bass, and Chicho (also performing with the group Plastiko) and on Drums. With this band, Elis recorded the demo for the track “Give Me Love”. Chicho quit the band, as did Arnold Benz briefly became the drummer. There was a recording of demo versions of “Bitch” and “Texas” together. Arnold quit the group in the middle of the night. Richo Acosta called Willy Gonzalez who was from a different band that which he was a member of to replace him on the drums. Then, Jorge “Gordo” Miramontes was brought in as bassist following Chumino quit the group. In the end and with this lineup they decided to form group instead of Elis being a solo performer. Elis Paprika then became the name of the group. Their first live performance as Elis Paprika took place in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico, on December 14, 2004, at The Hard Rock Cafe Guadalajara.

Elis Paparika (real identity Erika Elizabeth Nogues, born May 8 1980) is an independent musician and singer born in Guadalajara, Mexico. She has been a part of the Mexican Rock scene from 2004. She has performed three times at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City together with Julieta Venegas, in 2007. Belanova in 2008 in 2008, and Juan Gabriel in 2009. She performed in 3 Vive Latino festival which took place in Mexico City, first in 2006, then in 2011 and then in 2014. Elis Paprika has also performed internationally across North as well as South America, South East and East Asia, and Europe. She was awarded the title of “Band of the Month” on MTV Latin America in August 2006. The musicians in her group have changed over the years and her current live and recorded band is known as The Black Pilgrims. Elis began the career she is currently as a musician in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico.

The student dropped out of school in 2002 and relocated in London England for one year and began to write songs that she would later release under the name Elis Paprika. She was employed as waitress during her time in London. Then she returned back to Guadalajara Mexico in 2003 where she formed a group called The Paprikas, with a local musician called Raul Velazquez (not to be confused with Raul “Rul” Velazquez, who later became Elis the guitarist for The Black Pilgrims). The band was soon using the term “Elis from the Paprikas” or “Elis Paprika”, the name she later chose to use. After a few times in The Paprikas, Elis recorded a demo of the track “Sunny Day”, working with Shaboomy (later guitarist in Azul Violeta) as well as Eric Diaz, guitar player and bass player from the group The Waitress from Guadalajara Mexico. The Waitress was Elis her first solo venture. Its name was chosen because the group was a result of her experience working as waitresses within London and Guadalajara prior to making music. When she started to be identified by the name “Elis Paprika” and making additional music outside of her work, Elis left The Waitress. Other members from The Waitress continued without her.

Elis Paprika played on December 8, 2006 for a Green Peace event in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in a campaign against illegal fishing in protected waters.
