Donald Grant Thomas (born September 25 1985) is an American football player who is currently an unsigned free agent. He was chosen in the Miami Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played in the NCAA football tournament at Connecticut.

Thomas was hired with the New England Patriots on September 14, 2011, following an injury to the Dan Koppen who was the starting center caused some space on their roster. Thomas has been used as a fullback in shorter distance situations. Thomas was added to the starting lineup on the 24th of December with his old team, the Miami Dolphins when starting left guard Logan Mankins went down with knee injuries.

On July 30, 2014, Thomas re-tore the same quadriceps muscle that cost him all but two games in 2013. On July 31, Thomas was officially put on injured reserve, ending his 2014 season.

After a few times of trying out for various teams, Thomas ultimately signed with the Detroit Lions in November of the 2010 season. Thomas was not on the roster in any game during the 2010 NFL season.

Thomas began his journey at the University of Connecticut without the intent of participating in sports. After he had played basketball in a pick-up game together with Huskies linebacker Danny Lansanah, Lansanah persuaded Thomas to test out for an open position on the UConn’s football team. Thomas was a hard- working, dedicated worker who led to him receiving an all-inclusive scholarship as well as an opening at guard in which Thomas received the honor of being named All Big East in 2007 for UConn.

Thomas was selected during the 6th round of 2008’s NFL draft, as the 195th overall pick. Thomas was elevated to right guard in the day three of the training camps, over Trey Darilek. Thomas also made his NFL debut on the 7th of September of 2008 in the game against New York Jets. Thomas suffered a foot injury to his left during the second quarter, however he recovered from the injury and played through the game. The injury was later determined to be a fracture of the Lisfranc and Thomas was placed on the season-ending injured reserve the 9th of September. Thomas was released by the team shortly before the beginning of 2010’s NFL season.

Thomas signed with the Indianapolis Colts on March 12, 2013. Thomas immediately became the starting left guard for the Colts, but was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a quadriceps tear in a week two loss to the Miami Dolphins, his former team.
