Broadhurst was an outstanding amateur, winning his first Flyweight ABA championship in 2003 and also Gold for England at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He beat South Africa’s Jackson Van Chauke in the final of the tournament as the only one boxer who won gold for England on that day. The fight went on until the third round before it was stopped due to the rule that ‘outscored’ is the best way to win.
The 11th of December, 2009, following eleven straight wins and two defenses of his belt, Broadhurst lost to the reigning British Super Flyweight Champion Lee Haskins in a unification match. The fight, held in Newport Wales, saw Haskins become a double champion after securing the unanimous decision in 12 rounds of wacky action. When asked about his displeasure at losing for the first time, Broadhurst declared that his loss had been “one bad night” told Boxing News “I just stayed in bed, feeling down and depressed. It was among the worst things that’s occurred to me. it was like a loved one was dead or dying that was how terrible that was”.
Don Broadhurst is an English professional boxer who is a part of the Flyweight division. He is from Birmingham and is currently boxing with Frank Warren’s Sports Network. He was the title of Commonwealth super flyweight title from 31 October 2008 until 11 December 2009.

Don decided to make the switch to professional in June of 2006 and signed on with Sports Network saying “I feel that the time is right for me to make the leap into professional. I’ve represented England as well as that of the UK during my amateur years and they were some of the most memorable experiences of my life. part of me would love to compete in the Olympics however, I’m confident that this is the right moment, and I’ll continue to improve on my amateur performances as a professional”. The first fight he fought was three months later, when he beat the journeyman Delroy Spencer at Reebok Stadium in Bolton. In June of 2008, he took on in his hometown city in Birmingham in his first fight, beating Frenchman Alain Bonnel on points over six rounds. It was the only time that he was fighting in all of 2008 after a series of fights that were cancelled.
Even though he didn’t fight frequently in the year 2008 Don was able to achieve the first title of a professional fighter in the month of October. In his hometown of Birmingham once more , he led a show which saw him win his vacant Commonwealth super flyweight title. In the opposite boxing corner would be Isaac Quaye of Ghana with Broadhurst taking a unanimous victory in 12 rounds. Broadhurst’s victory meant Broadhurst had won the Commonwealth title both as an amateur as well as professionally. In spite of this, the event at Aston Villa Leisure Centre Aston Villa Leisure Centre will likely be remembered by Peter Buckley, the journeyman who won in his 300th and final fight. Broadhurst took the first defense of the title on March 9, 2009, in the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham beating an opponent of Ghana, Isaac Owusu in the 11th round. On April 24, Broadhurst was fighting three Ghanain boxer in succession in the 6th round, resulting in a stoppage of Asamoah Wilson in his second title defense.
Broadhurst didn’t return to the ring until 18 September 2010 when he hoped that an appearance on Frank Warrens ‘Magnificent Seven’ event held at the LG Arena in Birmingham would re-ignite his career. It was not to be however as he lost for the second time in a row, this time to Najah Ali a fighter who had fought only five professional contests. The contest was fought at bantamweight which was above Broadhursts natural weight but the loss to Ali by two rounds was bitterly disappointing for the local man.
