Dmitry Petrovich Voronenko (born July 29, 1971), known as the “Petersburg Maniac”, is a Kyrgyzstani-Ukrainian serial killer, who killed 4 girls and young women in St. Petersburg between 2006 and 2007.
On the 25th of August, 2006, he assaulted an 17-year-old girl in Loni Golikova street. The victim was able to get through the trauma.
On May 21, 2007, in the basement of a house on Bolshaya Raznochinnaya Street, he committed the last murder. The victim was 12-year-old Lena Boyko, with the modus operandi being the same – she was raped, followed by strangulation.
On March 4, 2007, he raped and killed 20-year-old Alena Gnatyuk, a student of the Institute of Water Transport. The killer kidnapped her from the “Chyornaya Rechka” metro station, dragged her into the basement of a house on Kolomyazhsky Avenue, raped and strangled her.
On the 8th of December 2008 at the basement area of a home in Stachek Avenue, he committed his first crime. His victim was 11 years old Lida Pogodina. She was brutally raped, killed, and then put his body inside a rubbish pile.

Voronenko was born in Osh Region into the family of an electrician and an elementary school teacher. As a child he would often choke on dogs and cats. After he graduated from in the class of 10th, Voronenko was unable to have a steady job. After 1987, Voronenko relocated into Krivyi Rih, a Ukrainian town of Krivyi Rih, where he completed his vocational training that specialized in welding.
In 1989, Voronenko was sentenced to three years of correctional work at construction sites in Crimea because of theft. Just prior to the release date, Voronenko took an alcohol bottle as well as a mobile from his shift manager for which he was sentenced an additional 2 years of labor in correctional facilities. In 1997 and 1999, he was given an unconstrained sentence 3 times, due to “causing serious harm to health in excess of the limits of self- defense” as well as theft. In 2004 Voronenko was sentenced to 5 years in prison. spending his time at the Kresty Prison for 2 confirmed assaults in 2001 and 2000 and 2001, with the majority of the sentence is absorbed through the duration of his stay in the midst of an investigation. On March 5, 2005 barely three years and three months after his the arrest, Voronenko was released on parole after a good behavior.
According to the testimony of witnesses, a facial composite of the killer was drawn up. At the disposal of the authorities were recordings from external surveillance cameras at one of the murder sites. As a result, 863 people previously convicted for sexual crimes were tested. During the search, information was received about Voronenko. His address was traced, and on May 24, 2007, he was ambushed and arrested. At first he was suspected only in the last murder, but he subsequently confessed to the previous three. Forensic psychiatric examination recognized Voronenko as insane.
