Dmitry Vasilyevich Rigin (Russian: Dmitrii Vasil’evich RIgin ; born on the 10th of April, 1985) is a Russian foil fencer who won the winning bronze for the team at both the 2014 and 2011 European Fencing Championships.
Rigin started the season 2014-15 with receiving a silver medal in the Prince Takamodo World Cup in Tokyo following a loss in the final to America’s Race Imboden. In March 2015 , he took home the Havana Grand Prix after prevailing against the American Alexander Massialas.
Rigin did not make it for his place in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and both the 2012-13 and 2011-12 seasons were not as successful. Rigin returned to form during the 2013-14 season, making the quarter-finals at the La Coruna and St Petersburg World Cups. He took home two times at the World Cup event in Havana. Inducted back to the Russian national team for the 2014 European Championships, he helped to beat Poland and the Czech Republic. Russia were heavily defeat by France in the semi-finals, however, they fought off Poland to win Rigin an additional European bronze. Rigin finished the season No.9 in world rakings. an all-time high for his career.

After having tried chess as well as other different sports Rigin was introduced to fencing around 1993 at the age eight. He trained in the Spartak Sports Club under coaches Sergey Andrievsky and his wife Laura. Since 2007, when he started training as part of Russia’s national team Russian National team, Rigin won an Olympic bronze medal at the 2007 European U23 Championships in Monza.
As a senior, he achieved his debut in the 2010-11 campaign: he made it to the quarter-finals of the Paris and St Petersburg World Cups and He won the Lowe von Bonn, defeating four-time World champion Peter Joppich in the semifinals and Olympic silver medallist Choi Byung-chul in his final. He was selected to his national squad to play in this year’s European Championships in Sheffield. Russia defeated Israel but were defeated from winning by France in the semi- final. They defeated Germany in the final match to win the bronze medal, earning Rigin to his very debut European distinction. In Catania 2011 which was his first World Championships, he was defeated in the second round by American Gerek Meinhardt. The results helped him climb to an international No.17 ranking at the conclusion of the season . He received the title of “breakthrough of the year” by the Russian Fencing Federation.
