Dmitri Markov is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on March 14, 1975 in Vitebsk, Vitebsk Region, Belarus. Dmitri Markov (Belarusian Dz’mitry Markau ; born on March 14, 1975 Vitebsk, Byelorussian SSR) is a retired Belarusian and Australian pole vaulter. He was a world champion and currently an Oceanian world record- holder. The gold medal-winning jump in the year 2001 World Championships made him the third person (of five in 2017) to jump 6.05 meters.

Dmitiri Markov announced that he would retire in the early part of 2007 because of chronic foot injuries. His final competition was during the World Athletics Tour in Melbourne on March 2 in 2007.

He was awarded the title of Western Australian Sports Star of the Year in 2001. Dmitri has been the South Australian 2005-2006 Open Male Athlete of the Year. He was also admitted into the South Australian Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2012, he was admitted into the Athletics Australia Hall of Fame.

He initially competed for his country of birth, Belarus however, he grew discontent in his country’s Belarusian Athletics Federation and refused to represent Belarus in 1998’s European Championships. He relocated from Belarus to Australia and was awarded the citizenship of Australia in. He quickly made a record-breaking Oceanian record for pole vaulting with 5.95 meters. His son Oleg Markov is a promising young Australian rules footballer, who has been drafted into the Australian Football League at the 2015 AFL draft by the Richmond Tigers.
