Mitov was signed by Charlton Athletic in 2013 from Bulgarian club Chavdar Etropole, after undergoing an initial trial in Nottingham Forest. In April of 2015 Mitov scored an own goal from the six-yard box in a match against Coventry City U18’s, gaining media attention. He was a part of the team at the under-18, under-21, and under-23, but did not appear in the senior squad at the club.
In February of 2015, Mitov was signed by Isthmian League Premier Division club Canvey Island on a month-long loan. He played one game for the club in an 1-1 draw against Lewes on February 28.
On 16 May 2018, he extended his contract with Cambridge United. The contract keeps him at the club until 2021.
