Peters was a student at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 20th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft. Peters didn’t sign and instead went to his first college, the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, where he played his college baseball. 2013 was the year he played in collegiate summer baseball for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League. The junior season of his ended early due to an injury to his elbow that needed Tommy John Surgery. Despite his injuries, the player was selected with the Miami Marlins in the 10th round of the 2014 MLB draft.
Peters was a professional for the first time in the 2015 season in The GCL Marlins and was later elevated to the Batavia Muckdogs; in 11 total games for both clubs Peters went 1-4 in his career, with an 3.60 ERA. The year prior, he was a player in The Jupiter Hammerheads and Jacksonville Suns with a combined 14-6 record with a 2.38 ERA over 24 total games. He played in 2017 for Jupiter, Jacksonville, and the GCL Marlins, posting a total of 7-3 and a 1.57 ERA in 13 starts.
In 2018, again pitching for Miami, he was 2-2 with a 7.16 ERA, and 17 strikeouts in 27.2 innings.
