Diego Demme (born 21 November 1991) is an German professional footballer, who plays as a defensive midfielder with Serie A club Napoli and the Germany national team.
The 2012-13 campaign, Demme started out his season at the club being a player in midfield. Even though he was injured in a loss of 2-1 in the match against Eintracht Braunschweig on 24 August 2012, Demme was then sent-off at the beginning of the second-half, for a tackle on Jan Hochscheidt, in a 1-1 win over Erzgebirge Aue on 16 September 2012. After his red card against Erzgebirge Aue, Demme received a three-match ban. Following his return to action from suspension following the match for FSV Frankfurt on October 5, 2012 Demme’s return was not long-lasting after he was injured in his ankle in early November, which forced him to miss two weeks. Following his recovery from his ankle injury sustained against VfR Aalen on 17 November 2012, Demme then play in the right-back position early in December due to an injury sustained by Jens Wemmer. In March Demme returned to play at the position of defensive midfield for the remainder of the year. After his excellent performance for the club they were keen to extend the contract of Demme, as it’s scheduled to expire at the conclusion in the season 2013-14. After the 2012-13 season Demme was able to make thirty appearances across every competition.
It was announced on 9 January 2012 that Demme moved to 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn, signing a two–year contract that keep him until 2014 and was given a number 4 shirt. The transfer reportedly cost for €25,000. The club previously keen on signing Demme last-May before signing a contract.
In the 2013–14 season, Demme, once again, started out in the midfield position despite competing with Manuel Zeitz. He started every matches since the start of the season until he was suspended in late–September following his bad behaviour against 1. FC Saarbrücken in the second round of DFB Pokal. But he returned to the first team from suspension on 4 October 2013, coming on as a second–half substitute, in a 2–1 win over FC St. Pauli; a game that saw him sustained ankle injury, causing him to miss one game. After his return from injury, Demme later regained his first place in the midfield position, making the total of 19 appearances for the side. Following his departure in January, the club were later promoted to the Bundesliga later in the 2013–14 season.
But, in the beginning in the season 2011-12 Demme was plagued with injuries. It wasn’t until 8 August 2011 that Demme made his first appearance in the league, making his first appearance, with an 1-0 defeat against VfR Aalen. As the season progressed, Demme continued to plagued with injuries and struggled to make it into playing in the team’s first group, eventually being assigned to the bench. After remaining at the club for three seasons after which he transferred towards SC Paderborn 07. At the time of the time of his deportation, he had made 23 appearances across every competition.

The birthplace of Demme was Herford, Germany, Demme started soccer at a very young age. He played for various youth teams such as, SpVg Hiddenhausen, SV Sundern, SV Enger-Westerenger and JSG Kirchlengern Stift Quernheim before joining Arminia Bielefeld, where he began his professional career. Demme was first called up to the German national team in 2017, for the friendly against Denmark on 6 June 2017, for the 2018 World Cup qualification match against San Marino on 10 June 2017, in which he made his international debut, and for the Confederations Cup, but withdrew from the squad ahead of the tournament due to a back injury.
