In the meantime the team was in talks for a move to Williams in 1983, but was rejected after a one-hour interview as there were no openings. But, Stanford joined the Ralt Formula Two team that was making use of Williams Wind Tunnel.

Richard “Dickie” Stanford (born 9 January 1956) is a retired British motor racing mechanic who has been appointed the general manager of Williams Heritage the company which repairs and maintains retired Williams vehicles, similar to Classic Team Lotus.
The year 1985 saw Stanford began working for Williams in 1985 as the race mechanic for Nigel Mansell. After three years Stanford was appointed an official member of the test team . He was in charge until 1989. He was appointed the chief mechanic in the year 1990. Stanford was appointed team manager following the team’s previous manager Ian Harrison left for the Renault BTCC team in late 1995. Stanford continued in his post for another 10 years, before cutting back his workload to spend more time with his family. In the 2010 season, Stanford rejoined Williams to be the team Manager to oversee Race Day and Testing.
