Maas was also the director of controversial Christmas horror film Sint (Saint Nick) and one episode of the TV series Young Indiana Jones. Karakter was awarded an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1996. Maas was executive producer. The film was produced by his production firm First Floor Features, founded in 1984. The company was shut down which he established with Laurens Geels in 2001.
