Desmond Haynes is one of the most popular and richest Cricketer who was born on February 15, 1956 in Saint James Parish, Barbados. Desmond Leo Haynes (born 15 February 1956) is an West Indian cricketer and cricket coach. He was named a Wisden Player of the Year for the year 1991. Haynes made a formidable partnership along with Gordon Greenidge for the West Indies cricket team during Test cricket in the 1980s. Between them , they managed 16 century standsand more than 200, and four over 200. The two scored 6482 runs when they batted in partnership, which is the third-highest total for a batting team in the history of Test cricket. Haynes preferred the more controlled approach when batting. He scored 7487 runs over 116 Test matches, with an average 42.29 and his best Test score of 184 was against England in the year 1980. He is among the few Test batsmen to be dismissed by the ball. He was dismissed in this manner against India on November 24, 1983. He is also among the few players who achieve a century in the debut of an ODI.
Haynes first came to prominence internationally with a 148-run score at Antigua in an One-Day International against Australia and up to recently Haynes had a few ODI records. These included the highest number of runs and the most centuries. He scored 148 runs against Australia was recorded in his debut game in One Day International which still is the most successful run ever achieved by a batsman during his debut in ODI as also as the most fast century recorded by an debutant in ODI. Haynes was a participant at 1979’s World Cup of 1979, that was won with West Indies. West Indies, and returned to the tournament in the years 1983, 1987 and 1992. For the first 25 World Cup matches, Haynes scored 854 runs, averaging 37.13 which included three fifty- five and a century. At the time of writing, 10 December 2013. Haynes is still one of the just two cricketers in history ODI cricket to score a 100 runs on debut and final game played, the other player being English cricketer Dennis Amiss.
Haynes was the only West Indian to carry his bat during a Test match. Haynes is among only two players who have played the world of Test Cricket to achieve this feat three times with the other being Dean Elgar. Haynes made his announcement of retirement the month of March 1997 following a first-class match with Western Province against Natal in Cape Town. He scored 83 in the first inning and was dismissed for a third ball duck in the next and the final innings of his career.

As most West Indian openers, Haynes was a strong player against speed and, after struggling with spin early in his career was able to become a formidable slow bowler as demonstrated by his scores that were 75-143 against Australia in one of the SCG dustbowl, in the year 1989. Haynes enjoyed a long and successful career playing English county cricket. He played in 95 first-class games for Middlesex and scoring 7071 run at 49.1 and a personal best at 255 in the match against Sussex. He received an Middlesex caps in the year 1989, and was a player at Lords until 1994. He played in 63 first class matches for Barbados from 1976/77 until 1994/95. He scored 4843 in 49.92 with a highest score of 246 and played 21 matches with Western Province from 1994/95 to 1996/97. He made 1340 runs with 40.6 with a maximum of 200. In all, first class cricket the player scored 26030 runs in 45.90 in addition to 15651 during 419 one-day games with a score of 42.07 with a highest score of 152-1.
