Lacey was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 18, 1990. He was a Hueytown High School football and track and cross-country athlete. While playing for the Golden Gophers football club, he was awarded the All-state, Super All- Metro and Old Spice Player of Year as well as Defensive Player. He also set the school mark in the 400m with 52.57.

On February 26, 2014, he signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL. Lacey was a key member of the Eskimos’ starting defense unit and made a significant impact on special teams. Lacey was a three-year member of the Eskimos’ special teams team and played in 54 games. He accumulated 144 defensive tackles, 668 special teams tackles as well as 7 sacks, 3 interceptions (4 forced fumbles) and 1 touchdown.

On January 10, 2017, Lacey signed a reserve/future contract with the Miami Dolphins. He was waived on September 2, 2017.

In December 2016, Lacey had workouts with various NFL teams, including; the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cincinnati Bengals. On January 3, 2017 the Eskimos granted Lacey an early release so he would be eligible to sign with an NFL team.

After being undrafted in 2013, Lacey was signed to the NFL by the Dallas Cowboys. Lacey was a Cowboys player in preseason games, where he contributed five tackles. The Cowboys released him on August 27, 2013.

Deon L. Lacey, born July 18, 1990, is a gridiron linebacker for Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the University of West Alabama. He was also a member the Dallas Cowboys and Edmonton Eskimos, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.

From 2008 to 2012, Lacey was a West Alabama Tigers football player. In 2011, he was the Gulf South Conference Defensive Players of the Year. He had 97 tackles and nine tackles for losses. He ended his college career with 267 tackles. Nine sacks, six forced turnovers, and five interceptions.

On September 3, 2017, Lacey was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills. He was waived by the Bills on October 18, 2017, but was re-signed the next day. He finished the 2017 season having contributed nine tackles. In the following off-season, on February 20, 2019, Lacey signed a one-year contract extension with the Bills. Lacey appeared in all four preseason games in 2019, and totaled 18 tackles. He was released during final roster cuts on August 31, 2019.
