Dennis Law is one of the most popular and richest Scottish footballer who was born on February 24, 1940 in Aberdeen, United Kingdom. Denis Law CBE (born 24 February 1940) is an Scottish ex-footballer, who was forward. His football career as a player began with Second Division Huddersfield Town in 1956. After four years with Huddersfield He was subsequently hired to Manchester City for an estimated transfer fee of £55,000 which was a record British record. Law had a brief stay in the city before Torino purchased him for PS110,000, which was the record for a transfer of an British player. While he was a good player in Italy however, he had a difficult to settle in Italy and signed with Manchester United in 1962, making another British record transfer cost of PS115,000.
In the month of March, 1960, Law signed for Manchester City in exchange for an British record-breaking transfer price believed to be around PS55,000, but Law’s part of the cost is “precisely nothing”. Another time, Matt Busby had attempted to sign Law for Manchester United, but United’s city rivals in the cross-city battled them to the Law signature.
Although he had thought about leaving, he was playing well and in 1961 Law scored an incredible six goals in an FA Cup tie against Luton Town. Unfortunately for him, the match was abandoned with twenty minutes to go, so his six goals didn’t count. To make matters worse for him, Luton won the replay 3–1, and City were knocked out of the Cup.
He first met his wife-to-be, Diana, in an Aberdeenshire dancehall when they were both still teenagers. They married in December 1962 and went on to have five children. Their daughter, also called Diana, worked for several years in the Manchester United press office. Their other children are Gary, Andrew, Robert and Iain. They also have five grandchildren, Emilia, Isla, Ollie, James and Harvey. Denis and Diana still live in the Manchester area.
Law was not selected to represent Scotland during the 1958 FIFA World Cup, but was made debut in the British Home Championship match against Wales on October 18th, 1958, by Matt Busby, who managed Scotland on the basis of a temporary contract for two games. Law scored Scotland’s second goal during a 3-0 victory over Wales Welsh on Ninian Park. Law was a player but did not score during Scotland’s game against England on the 15th of April, 1961. Scotland lost the game 9-3. Law declared it to be the “blackest day”. While at Torino, Law continued to take part for Scotland however, the team were reluctant to let him play in international games and had inserted in his contract a clause in which they said they weren’t obliged to release him for international matches.

In the season 1954-55, Law was discovered in the 1954-55 season by Archie Beattie, a scout for Huddersfield Town, who invited the 14-year-old Law to join him to the club for a test. After he arrived the manager commented, “The boy’s a freak. Never did I see a less likely football prospect – weak, puny and bespectacled.” But, to Law’s delight the club signed him on the 3rd of April 1955. While in Huddersfield the team performed the operation of correcting his squint which greatly improved his self-confidence.
The club’s fall to called the Second Division made it easier for Law to play which he played in, and Law was first introduced on December 1956, only 16 years old, in an 1-0 win against Notts County. Manager of Manchester United Matt Busby shortly offered Huddersfield PS10,000 in exchange for Law that was a huge sum of money for a teenager player at the time and the club turned their back on it. Bill Shankly was manager of Huddersfield between 1957 between 1959 and 1957 and, when his departure was to join Liverpool the club, he planned to bring Law to Liverpool, however Liverpool could not afford Law at the time.
Although he enjoyed his time at City, he wanted to play in a more successful side and was sold to the Italian club Torino in the summer of 1961.
