Dennis King is one of the most popular and richest Poster Artist who was born on September 24, 1952 in Coventry, England, United Kingdom. The first time he started collecting Rock posters as well as other artifacts when he was young teenagers in the 60s. King was selling them by 1971 in an open market located in Alameda, California and other locations. After he paid for his school through selling rare comic books, sports cards posters, and other items, he graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in Mathematics and, after a short period of teaching in high school the decision was made to handle collectibles full-time. He opened his first brick and mortar retail opening, King’s Baseball Cards and Comic Books located situated in Durant Mall located in the Telegraph Avenue area of Berkeley, California. In 1982, he moved the location in Center Street in the center of downtown Berkeley which allowed him to expand his inventory and was one of the first stores to sell authentic MLB team apparel to the public.

He established the D. King Gallery in Berkeley in 1996. The gallery was at initially focusing on art shows. However, he later switched to the 1960s Rock posters and old sports souvenirs. He has operated an on-line store from 1997. He also owns the subsidiary King’s Comics, which deals in comics from the past and other related items.

In addition to his contributions in his work for the Art of Modern Rock series, King has also written for Juxtapoz as well as interviewed the poster designer Derek Hess, and about Japanese pop culture items to The Antiquer. The year 1991 was the first time he contributed to the publication Japanese Baseball Card Quarterly. The magazine was the first and sole issue of the Rock Poster Collector, an attempt to create the possibility of collecting posters from rock. The issue included an article written by John Lyons. The effort to create a collection community was followed by the establishment by The Rock Poster Society (TRPS).

King was interviewed on baseball cards by California Business and in 1991 was instrumental in establishing his own organization, the Sports Collectibles Association International, which was a group that promoted ethical conduct in the world of sports collectibles. King is also an active part of the Ephemera Society of America.

King curated the “Art of Modern Rock: The Poster Explosion” exhibit which was shown at the Bumbershoot multi-disciplinary arts festival in Seattle and then at the Experience Music Project museum in Seattle in May, 2006. The show featured the work of more than 300 artists from King’s personal collection. He provided images for the Art of Modern Rock wall calendars in 2008 and 2009.
