Denis Menchov is one of the most popular and richest Cyclist who was born on January 25, 1978 in Oryol, Oryol Oblast, Russia. Denis Nikolayevich Menchov (Russian: Denis Nikolaevich Men’shov ; born 25 January 1978) is an ex-professional Russian road bike racer who competed professionally between 2000 until 2013. He was most well-known in the general category of rider. He was also climber, and a proficient time trialist. In 2005, he was third in Vuelta a Espana, but in 2007 he was crowned as champion. Menchov also took home the 100th anniversary Giro d’Italia in 2009, and placed third in Tour de France in 2010 becoming the first Russian to achieve this feat. He was removed from the Tour de France, along with the 2012 and 2009 editions due to negative results from the biological passport.

Menchov dropped out of his 2007 Tour de France on stage 17 the day after the team mate Michael Rasmussen was fired from Rabobank. The following year, he took home the Vuelta a Espana after leading during the second part of the event. In the Vuelta He also took home an event, the mountains classification, as well as the combination classification.

In 2009 Menchov won the Giro d’Italia, with wins in stages 5 and 12. Despite crashing in the final kilometer of the last-stage time-trial through Rome, Menchov held the pink jersey and extended his lead by 21 seconds, winning by 41 seconds over Italy’s Danilo Di Luca. Menchov also won the points jersey that year.

Later in 2010 Menchov transferred to Geox-TMC, as joint leader of the team with Carlos Sastre. Menchov was replaced as leader of Rabobank by Robert Gesink. With Geox, Menchov finished 8th in the 2011 Giro. The team were not invited to the Tour de France, a blow to Menchov, who had been considered a favourite. Menchov finished fifth overall at the Vuelta a España, having helped teammate Juan José Cobo to overall victory.

In 2006, the Tour de France Menchov won the 11th stage – which was the second mountain stage , which ran starting from Tarbes to Aran Valley Pla-de-Beret, following the sprint of Leipheimer along with Floyd Landis. The final week of the race took its toll, and he fell from 3rd to 6th place in the Alps. Then he climbed to 5th overall following the exclusion of the race’s champion Floyd Landis.

He was born in Oryol, Menchov started his professional career in the year 2000, working for his Banesto Team from Jose Miguel Echevarri. The first time he was successful was in 2001 when he took home the Tour de l’Avenir, a stage race designed for young professionals. In the following year, he won an event of the Dauphine Libere. The year 2003 was the time Menchov was able to make his debut when he placed at 11th place in the Tour de France, and took home the young rider class. 2004 was his final season at Banesto and his best- performing. He was awarded the Tour of the Basque Country and a stage in Vuelta a Aragon, a stage in Paris-Nice as well as stage five of Vuelta a Espana, from Zaragoza to Morella.

Menchov won the race as the official winner at the 2004 Vuelta however the win was returned in 2012 to Heras after 2012. He also won the Vuelta’s Combined Classification.

In 2008 Menchov concentrated on Tour de France and did not defend his Vuelta title. He ended third in the Tour because Bernhard Kohl was disqualified for doping. Also Menchov finished fifth in Giro prior.
