On July 25, the 25th of July Malgin agreed to a 3-year contract, starting at the entry level to the Panthers.
During the 2019–20 season, Malgin registered 12 points in 36 games with the Panthers before he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Mason Marchment on 19 February 2020.
Malgin was named to the Panthers their first night lineup for their 2016-17 campaign. Malgin began the NHL debut on the 13th of October with the New Jersey Devils. The first point of his career was an assist during his first NHL game with the Detroit Red Wings on 15 October. Malgin scored his first NHL goal on November 2 in a game against Tuukka Rask, a player of the Boston Bruins. Malgin ended the season with 10 points across 47 games. Malgin also played during 15 of The Panthers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate The Springfield Thunderbirds.
