Rappers Prof and Dem Atlas have been dropped from their record label following allegations of “abuse of women,” “misogyny” and “sexual misconduct.” On Thursday (June 25), Minneapolis, Minn. -based record label Rhymesayers Entertainment announced that they have ended their working relationships with Prof and Dem Atlas.
Why did Rhymesayers drop Dem Atlas?
“We, like many others, separated the music from potential behavior. Thus, we were complicit in promoting and marketing music that perpetuates misogyny.” As for Dem Atlas, Rhymesayers alluded to “ recent reports of his behavior ” as the reason for dropping him.
Why was Prof Cancelled?
The concerns came over Prof’s misogynistic lyrics, and tweets from 2012. The tweets included glorifying having sex with young girls, raping and stalking women, and committing violence against women. When those tweets surfaced last summer, Prof’s record label, Rhymesayers, dropped him.
Why do professors leave Rhymesayers?
In June 2020, Prof was dropped by the hip-hop collective Rhymesayers over music the label said “ perpetuates misogyny.” Around the same time, social media posts from Prof resurfaced that critics say glorify rape culture.
