The father of Zaman is a homoeopathic physician and his older sister, Saifullah “Sam” Zaman (1965-2015 also called State of Bengal), was a music producer and DJ. The year 1987 was the time that Zaman joined his older twin’s State of Bengal group which included MC Mustaq. Zaman was a student at Stratford School.
He resigned in the month of December, 2000. quit the group after having been inspired by activist work when he recorded songs for the Asian Dub Foundation song “Free Satpal Ram” about the story of a young man who was sentenced and imprisoned for his defense against a racist attack, as well as being involved in an activist group called the Satpal Ram movement. Then, he devoted his time towards civil rights and anti-racism organizations. He has worked with the National Civil Rights Movement, the Campaign Against Racism and Fascism as well as The Miscarriages of Justice Organisation and the Children with AIDS Charity.
Zaman was a part of the soundtracks for his 1999 feature film Brokedown Palace, as well as the movie The Namesake.

Saidullah “Deeder” Zaman (Bengali: saaiidullaah didaar jaamaan ; born 25 July 1978), is a British rapper and former lead vocalist for British band Asian Dub Foundation.
At 14years old, Zaman was a member of Community Music, a London-based educational institution that is focused on making music collectively in the Community Music House in Farringdon where bassist Dr. Das (Aniruddha Das) taught music technology. Civil rights activist DJ John Pandit (Pandit G) was an youth worker. Zaman took part in workshops that taught young people the basics of technology for music. In the latter half of 1993, the three of them formed Asian Dub Foundation as a sound system that would play at anti-racist concerts. In the next year, they enlisted guitarist Chandrasonic and grew into an actual group. Sun-J, the band’s final member, joined in 1995. Zaman was the vocalist in charge of the Asian Dub Foundation and was popularly known by the name of Master D.
In 2002, Zaman formed Rebel Uprising with multi-instrumentalist Passion and bassist Dennis Rootical from Iration Steppas. In January 2008, Zaman’s debut solo album Minority Large was released by Beat Records. In October 2011, his second solo album Pride of the Underdog was released by Modulor.
