Dean Benson Phillips (born January 20th 1969) was an American politician and businessman in the State of Minnesota. A Democrat Phillips is a member of the US House of Representatives from Minnesota’s 3rd congressional District, winning over Republican incumbent Erik Paulsen in the 2018 midterm elections. The district is situated in the western region of the Twin Cities metropolitan area and comprises Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, Minnetonka, Maple Grove, Plymouth and Wayzata.
Phillips completed his studies at Brown University in 1991 and is an active participant in the Sigma Chi fraternity. He worked for the bicycle clothing and equipment company InMotion during two years. He later joining the family- owned company. He graduated with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota in 2000 and was elected the president for Phillips Distilling. His home is in Deephaven located west of Minneapolis.
Phillips won the race, defeating incumbent Republican Erik Paulsen with 55.6% of the vote. When he took office in 2019, he became the first Democrat to hold this seat since 1961.
