Morello was a full-time player in Italy and across divisions. He played for Ruggiero di Lauria, Cephaledium, Cavese, Isernia, Gela, Ancona, Pisa, Torino and Trapani. He received five promotions during his career. He was demoted once by Pisa in the 2008-09 season.

In June 2019, Morello became sporting director with refounded Serie D side Messina.

The club he played for four years was Pisa and things began slow for Morello in the form of only four appearances in the 2006-07 season prior to becoming their top player in 2007-08 and 2008-09, when he played in thirty-six and 23 appearances respectively. Morello was promoted again in 2006-07, when Pisa were elevated up to Serie B but also suffered the first time in his career in 2008-09. Pisa placed the 20th position on the table in Serie B in 2008-09. Pisa were dropped into Serie D rather than Serie C1 because of financial problems. Torino was Morello’s 8th club after they signed him in January of 2010 and he remained in Turin for 2 and quarter seasons because he only played eleven games.

Morello began his career Serie D with Ruggiero di Lauria. He made 19 appearances before moving to the Serie D club Cephaledium where there were thirty games. Morello was then promoted into Serie C2 in 2001 to join Cavese which he played for a single season, appearing in twenty-five matches after which he moved to another club before returning into Serie D to go to Isernia in 2002. Morello made 12 appearances during his first season with the Molise club, during which the club was promoted into Serie C2, meaning Morello returned to Italy’s fourth division after a year of it. He was at Isernia until the year 2004 and played an average of forty appearances.

His next stop was Sicily to sign with Gela and after playing 32 appearances for Gela Morello was back in the market for a new home when Morello signed with Ancona during 2005. Morello continued to play for Ancona during two years, making 25 appearances as a member of Ancona’s Ancona team that was promoted into Serie C1 from Serie C2 in 2005-2006. Morello left at the conclusion of the promotion season for Ancona after only seven appearances which was compared to 18 in his first season at the club. The next step was a move to Pisa which continued to play for more than other clubs during his time.

There was some joy for Morello though as in his final season, 2011–12, he once again won promotion as Torino finished second on goal difference in Serie B to gain a place in Italy’s top-flight Serie A. He left at the end of that season in 2012 to join his final club, Trapani. In what was his final season as a player he failed to make a Serie B appearance for Trapani but did take part in his fifth career promotion as Trapani won the 2012–13 Serie C1. Although Morello didn’t make a league appearance for Trapani, he did make one last career appearance when he played the full ninety minutes in the first leg of the Supercoppa di Lega Pro final against Avellino. He didn’t make the squad for the second leg and left the club at the end of the season and subsequently retired.
