His father was an British stockbroker, and his mother is an Italian photographer, were both from Alexandria, Egypt. They immigrated to Switzerland as young people together with their parents in 1956, when Gamal Abdel Nasser was elected to power and made the decision to ban most foreigners from the country.

In 2013, he was introduced to his wife Anastasiia Chronia Houston, Texas, while photographing one of these travels. The particular work has been published by S magazine and exhibited at the Annenberg Space for Photography as part of a group exhibition at the Helmut Newton exhibition.
