David Mathieson (born 18 January 1978 in Dumfries, Scotland) is a former Scottish pro association soccer player. As a goalkeeper, he was a player for Queen of the South and Gretna and played three times for the Scotland under-21s.
After his departure from Palmerston Park he rejoined the former Queens manager and player, Rowan Alexander who was now the manager of the non-league club Gretna. Gretna was able to gain membership in the Scottish League in 2002. The club was soon bought by billionaire Brooks Mileson. After being bankrolled by Mileson Gretna commenced an ambitious strategy for recruiting. With top players from the division, Mathieson picked up the 2005 Scottish Third Division championship. Mathieson later fell not in the favour of the club after the club hired the former St Johnstone goalkeeper Alan Main. Mathieson made just four appearances in the season 2005-06, and his final appearance came at the Scottish Challenge Cup, early in the 2006-07 season.
At the conclusion of the season 1998-1999 David Mathieson was the Queen of the South fan club player of the season. At Queen of the South David Mathieson earned three Scotland Under 21 cap. The opposition was Latvia, Colombia and Germany. Mathieson quit Palmerston Park in 2001 after five seasons.
