David Hentschel (born 18 December 1952) is a English recording engineer composer for film scores and music engineer who produced George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass and Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, along with other musicians such as Genesis, Tony Banks, Ringo Starr, Queen, Nazareth, Marti Webb, Andy Summers, Mike Oldfield, Renaissance, Peter Hammill and Ronnie Caryl.
in 1982 Hentschel was a collaborator with lyricsist Don Black on a song cycle album for Marti Webb following her success from Tell Me on a Sunday. I’m Not That Kind of Girl was released in 1983. Despite having the talent that is Phil Collins on drums and Kiki Dee as the backing vocalist The album failed to rank and it was also Webb’s final release for Polydor.
In 1988, Hentschel produced and engineered the Grammy Award-winning album Politics, by the jazz fusion band Yellowjackets.
In 1975, he recorded ‘Oh My My’, an instrumental/keyboard version of Ringo Starr’s 1973 song.

After his departure from Trident after 1974, the band recorded his own album, Sta*rtling Music for Ringo Starr’s record label called Ring O’ Records. comprised of a song-by song, instrumental cover of the album Ringo and with appearances from Phil Collins, David Cole, Ronnie Caryl, John Gilbert (the son of Lewis Gilbert) and Starr. Then, he began a lucrative collaboration with the group Genesis that produced four albums that began in 1976 with A Trick of the Tail in 1976 and continued through Duke in the year 1980.
Hentschel also composed the score in the Lewis Gilbert films Operation Daybreak (1975), Seven Nights in Japan (1976), Teaching Rita (1983) as well as The Squeeze (1977).
Relocating to Los Angeles in 1985, he established one of the first dedicated MIDI studios and worked with Ensoniq on developing instruments and custom sounds. Now living back in England he continues to produce, compose and arrange on both sides of the Atlantic.
