He was a part of Northamptonshire to play domestic cricket for the 1997 season. He made his county debut during the AXA Life League against Warwickshire during a season where 13 wickets were taken in that format with an average of 19.84 and included his highest figures of 4/39. He was the first player to play in a County Championship match for the county in the same season against the former county Middlesex. He would then take part in 11 first-class games for Northamptonshire which spanned three seasons, his final appearance against Derbyshire in 1999’s County Championship. It was difficult for his wickets to get on the County Ground, taking 20 wickets with the rate of 41.25 with the highest figures of 3/48. In List A cricket, Follett played 18 limited-overs matches for the county during which he picked up 29 wickets, with an average 23.82. However, injuries further hindered his performances with Northamptonshire: Follett didn’t feature in List A cricket in 1999 and instead played in a handful of first-class cricket. He quit Northamptonshire at the close of the 1999 season.

He was however used more than others in List A cricket by Middlesex and made an appearance in 11 matches for Middlesex. The eleven List A appearances yielded him 12 wickets with an average 33.75. His highest bowling figure of 2/27 were recorded in the 1995 season, where his 6 wickets cost 21.16 per wicket, however, the next season, his performance declined, as six wickets in the year that costing 46.33 per wicket. Follett was released from Middlesex in the middle of the 1996 season.

In his return to his injury-hit career with Staffordshire which is where he started his county cricket career in 1994. Follett was a part of Minor counties cricket from the year 2000 until in 2005, for Staffordshire. He was playing another 24 Minor Counties Championship appearances and nine more MCCA Knockout Trophy appearances. Participating in his very first List A fixture for Staffordshire in the 2000 NatWest Trophy against the Somerset Cricket Board, Follett went on to play seven more matches using that style for Staffordshire, and his final List A match coming against Surrey in the 2005 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. The bowling performance of his was impressive in List A cricket was at its highest for Staffordshire with 16 wickets averaging an incredible average of 14. In 2002’s Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy match against Hertfordshire He ended his game to new heights with his limited-overs scores of 4/17.

He then joined Middlesex in the following season. The county’s debut was in the match against Hampshire at the Benson & Hedges Cup, that was also his first List A match. In 1995, Follett also made his first-class debut against Warwickshire in his sole appearance at that season’s County Championship. In the next season Follett was not often used for first-class cricket, only making six appearances. In spite of his few appearances as a fast right-armer, Follett was able to perform admirably with the ball, taking 24 wickets for the rate of 28.50 and best figures of 8/22. Three times he scored five wickets and his highest figures of 8/22 being against Durham in 1996. He scored two wickets in the Durham first-innings. In the second innings, his 8 wicket haul allowed him to take Durham with a pathetic of 67, which was the only ten wickets he took during a game and the team to propel Middlesex to a stunning 306-run victory. But, a shin ailment during that time limited his playing time for the rest of the season.
