David Degen (born 15 February 1983 in Liestal) is an ex- Swiss footballer, who most recently had a stint with FC Basel, mostly as a right-handed midfielder within the Swiss Super League. David Degen is half Dutch since his mother hails of the Netherlands. He has a twin brother Philipp Degen was also a professional soccer player.

On May 31, 2012 Basel declared that they’d signed Degen for a contract that runs until June 15, 2015 and his older brother Philipp. Degen played his first game with his team after his return Servette FC on 13 July and scored the winning goal for the 1-0 win. In the final stages of the Swiss Super League season 2012-13 Degen was awarded the Championship title as well as being the Swiss Cup runner up with Basel. In 2012-13, UEFA Europa League Basel advanced to the semi-finals. There, they were faced with the champions of the UEFA Champions League holders Chelsea however they were eliminated after being defeated 2-5 in aggregate.

Degen made the move into Bundesliga Club Borussia Monchengladbach in 2006. He made his debut with Monchengladbach on the 14th of October, 2006 during the game in the match against VfL Wolfsburg and scored his first goal for the club he joined in the game. But, following the club’s fall from the Bundesliga season of 2006-07 to the 2. Bundesliga, Borussia manager Jos Luhukay loaned him for his previous club Basel in 2007/08. On the 22nd of August, 2008, he was recalled to Switzerland in a permanent contract in the form of BSC Young Boys. Degen was in the BSC Young Boys for four seasons, Bern playing in 106 league games with 17 scoring goals.

Degen began his soccer career at the his local team FC Oberdorf. In 1996, Degen was transferred to the youth team that were part of FC Basel playing in their U-18 and U-21 teams. He began his professional career with FC Aarau in 2000 but returned to Basel in 2003. While at Basel during the Super League season 2003-04 and 2004-05, Degen won two domestic League Titels.
