David Lance Bowdich (born March 14 1969) is an American law enforcement officer who is currently acting as the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Before his present position Bowdich was the assistant deputy director of the FBI from April 2016 until April 2018, and then as acting Deputy Director beginning on the 29th of January, 2018, until his appointment on April 13, 2018.

Bowdich was a member of his time with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1995 at the San Diego, California field office, where he worked as an SWAT team member and was also involved in investigations into violent crime and criminal gangs. Bowdich was the lead investigator in an investigation that led to convictions for street criminals within the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

In 2009, Bowdich became in charge of the field office in San Diego. Bowdich noticed that there was a trend of kidnapping committed by Mexican cartel- related criminal enterprises, so he initiated an interagency squad that built a large-scale criminal case against 43 members and associates of the cartel who were kidnapping individuals in and around San Diego. Bowdich also supervised the investigations into the murders of two United States Border Patrol agents.

By 2011, Bowdich was the Federal Bureau of Investigation supervisor in San Diego, managing 100 agents and officers around Mexico–United States border.

Bowdich graduated with his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at New Mexico State University in 1991. He was later awarded a master’s diploma in management from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.
