David Art Wales (born 6 February 1964 in Sydney) is an Australian artist and entrepreneur most well-known for his humorous cult figures like Guru Adrian. He has participated in collaborations with artists Keith Haring and filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.
In 1998, Wales along with Australian performer Catherine Hourihan launched the Red Vixen Burlesque which became a well-known Downtown New York attraction that is considered to be an early progenior to the burlesque revival.
That same year, Wales became Cultural Forecaster for Toyota, tracking and predicting trends for the automaker’s design division. In 2000 he launched Ministry of Culture, a research, strategy and content creation firm.
Wales has been called “the father of the Noughties” in relation to his role as founder of Project Naughtie, a campaign to name the decade of 2000–2009 the “Naughties”.
Wales relocated from Australia to New York to become a painter in 1989 . He then during the 1990s, he exhibited at numerous Manhattan as well as Australian galleries such as Roslyn Oxley 9 as well as Sherman Galleries. In the same time, he was involved in content creation projects that were developed for MTV, Fox and Disney.
