David Mark Archer (born February 15th 1962) is an ex-professional American footballer. He is a 6’2″ (1.88 millimeter) non- drafted player from Iowa State University, Archer played for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL) between 1984 and 1989 with teams such as the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles.

Archer was a player with his team, the Sacramento Surge of the WLAF in 1992, throwing the record of 2,964 yards (NFL Europa record for a single season) and helping them win the World Bowl championship, where Archer was named MVP of the game. In 1993 this same owner group that controlled the Surge (who was dissolved as did the other WLAF’s North American teams following the 1992 season) moved Archer to their newly formed Canadian Football League (CFL) team The Sacramento Gold Miners (part of the league’s United States expansion). In his Gold Miners debut, in 1993, he threw 6,023 yards. This is still the fifth highest during any CFL game (Doug Flutie, a player with the Calgary Stampeders threw for even more yards that season.) He also threw for 3,340 yards in Sacramento during 1994. He was part of the San Antonio Texans in 1995 as well as in 1996, with the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1996. Following his time with the Rough Riders folded, he was selected to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the dispersal draft. He decided not to play in Saskatchewan because the offered was too low, and decided to quit instead. He worked for 1997 as an CFL television analyst before returning in the CFL playing for Edmonton Eskimos Edmonton Eskimos in 1998. The final game he played included that of the Western Final playoff game against the Calgary Stampeders with Jeff Garcia at the helm. Calgary prevailed and won the Grey Cup. He ended the season with 2,007 yards of passing and 10 touchdown throws in 11 games, completing 350 yards in his career with the New York Giants. The agile Archer was among the best quarterbacks to run in the league and ranked among the top players in the NFL in QB rushing yards both in the year 1985 (347 yards) and 1986 (298). Archer continued to play for five years in the NFL and finished his final seasons as a member of Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers and the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
