Dave Strader is one of the most popular and richest American sportscaster who was born on February 24, 1955 in Glens Falls, New York, United States. David Strader (February 24, 1955 from February 24, 1955 until October 1, 2017,) was an American sportscaster who was primarily famous for his play-by-play commentaries of hockey on ice. In his time as a telecaster, he worked of the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes and Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). In addition, he worked in the United States for ESPN, ABC, Versus, NBC Sports Network and NBC.
He was transferred to NBC and Versus when they were awarded contracts with the NHL contract in the year 2005. Strader also played hockey play-by-play for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy and in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Strader was the last-minute replacement to Mike Emrick on NBC’s coverage of the NHL Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks on January 1st, 2009 in the event that Emrick could not broadcast the game because of laryngitis. Strader also announced”the 2011 NHL Heritage Classic on Versus in which players from the Montreal Canadiens played the Calgary Flames at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta.
In 2012 Strader covered the Battle 4 Atlantis men’s college basketball preseason tournament on the NBC Sports Network alongside Donny Marshall.
The Hockey Hall of Fame had announced earlier that the year on April 17 that Strader was the 2017 recipient of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, but his actual induction ceremony was scheduled months later on November 13. At the time of the announcement, Strader stated that he was looking forward to the ceremony, saying that it was the greatest honor he had ever received. Due to his death, Strader’s sons accepted the award posthumously at the November induction ceremony on his behalf.
In 1985 the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings called Strader to join the farm team and he was able to take over the role of play-by-play, calling games on TV both WKBD as well as PASS Sports alongside Mickey Redmond until 1996. Strader was the game caller on behalf of the Florida Panthers for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, but was not playing games on NBC and Versus. Strader was employed as a broadcaster for The Phoenix Coyotes on July 2 July, 2007. He was brought back together with Strader’s ex- ESPN and ABC teammate, Darren Pang, for Coyotes broadcasts for two seasons. Without a television contract in place for Coyotes events, Pang left in 2009 to join the Blues. Strader was added to on the radio booth with the former NHL athlete Tyson Nash.

Strader’s broadcasting career in professional broadcasting began as a radio announcer and director of public relations of the Adirondack Red Wings of the AHL from 1979 until 1985. Two-time New York State Broadcasters Association honoree, Strader won the title of the top AHL public relations professional in 1984.
After the demise of long-time ESPN anchor Tom Mees in 1996, Strader was employed for the network’s cable channel to fill the spot that was left for play-by-play for National Hockey Night broadcasts. Strader was often joined by Brian Engblom on the third broadcast team. When ABC received the NHL broadcast contract in 2000, Strader was employed by the network too. Strader also broadcast NHL matches for FOX during the mid-1990s and also the Stanley Cup Finals for NHL International between 1997 and 2015.
In July 2011, Strader left his position with the Coyotes to accept a full-time job with NBC/Versus. He joined the NHL Dallas Stars as their TV play-by-play voice at the start of the 2015-2016 NHL season.
