David Alvin Revering (born February 12 1953) was an American former professional baseball player. He was a first baseman with Major League Baseball from 1978 until 1982.

In his time at Oakland, Revering batted .279 with 52 RBIs and 195 home runs. In May 20th, 1981 Revering, Mike Patterson and minor leaguer Chuck Dougherty were traded to the New York Yankees for Jim Spencer and Tom Underwood.

Revering took over Jim Spencer’s role as a backup for Bob Watson at first base. He hit .235 with seven RBIs, but saw only limited activity during the strike-shortened season. However he made the playoffs for only the second occasion during his entire career. He played in two games of The 1981 American League Division Series as an in-game defensive substitute and did not receive an opportunity to bat. He had two bats during 1981’s American League Championship Series against the A’s, scoring one hit in the Yankees 13-3 victory in game two. Although the Yankees made it to their 1981 World Series, Revering did not appear.

Revering completed his studies at Bella Vista High School. He was picked to the Cincinnati Reds in the seventh round of the 1971 Major League Baseball Draft. Revering became an elite potential player for the Reds with up to 29 home runs while scoring 110 runs for the Indianapolis Indians in 1977. On the 9th of December 1977 the Reds announced the signing of a contract to take in unhappy Cy Young Award winning pitcher Vida Blue from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for Revering and $1.75 million. But the commissioner Bowie Kuhn vetoed the deal. A new agreement was negotiated the 25th of February 1978, in which the Reds offered Revering and money to Oakland in exchange for Doug Bair.

When he was acquired, Revering immediately assumed first base duties for the A’s at .271 with 16 hits and 46 RBI during his first season. The A’s fell 108 times in 1979, but Revering was an icon for the mediocre club, slugging 19 home runs as well as driving in 77 runs (both record highs for a career) and at .288.

A month into the 1982 season, the Yankees dealt Revering to the Toronto Blue Jays, with minor leaguers Tom Dodd and Jeff Reynolds for John Mayberry. The Jays released Revering on August 2. Shortly afterwards, he signed with the Seattle Mariners; however, he was released at the end of the season. Revering joined the Detroit Tigers for spring training 1983, but did not make the club. He was offered a minor league assignment, but chose to retire instead.
