Darvis “Doc” Darell Patton (born on December 4 1977) is a retired American track and field athlete who ran in sprint events. He was twice-time US Champion in the 200-meter sprint and also won the silver medal for the race in 2003 at the World Championships. He has been three times Olympian and has been a four-time participant in the World Athletics Championships.

Patton has enjoyed a lot of success in his American 4×100-meter relay team. winning the world gold medal between 2003 and 2007 and an Olympic silver medallist (2004). However, he has also experienced misfortune with the relay, being associated with an incident that led to the American team’s disqualification in the 2008 Summer Olympics as well as in 2009’s World Championships, and the 2011 World Championships.

Based on his performance, he was selected to represent the United States at the 2007 Pan American Games. He finished second in the 100 m behind Churandy Martina and anchored the relay team to a bronze medal. He was chosen as part of the relay team for the 2007 World Championships and this time made the final after qualifying. The American team (with Wallace Spearmon, Tyson Gay, and Leroy Dixon) became the world champions in a world-leading time of 37.78 seconds, fending off the Jamaican challengers who set a national record.

The family was born in Dallas, Texas, the child of William Johnson and Dorrise Patton, Darvis Patton was a highly athletically versatile from the age of five and was a participant in the three jump, the long jump, and sprint races during Lake Highlands High School and TCU days. The AAU Junior Olympic Games in 1998, he won the long-jump, finished third for the triple jump, and was 4th in the 200-meter sprint. The year he graduated, he attended Garden City Community College that year, and was awarded an athletic scholarship to Texas Christian University. There, he began to concentrate on the 100-meter race and 200 meters under the direction by Monte Stratton. He placed in the top ten in both of these times in the 2000 NCAA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship. He finished his year by setting personal record times for the 60-meter dash of 6.64 second for the 60-meter run, 10.22 for the 100 meters, 20.29 for the 200 meters, as well as 8.04 m (26 feet 4 inches) to jump long.
