Darryl Foster is one of the most popular and richest Minister who was born on September 25, 1961 in Cameron, Texas, United States. After having graduated from Marlin High School in 1980, Foster enrolled in McClennan Community College in Waco to study mass communication and journalism to pursue an employment as an editor for media. In his time at McClennan, he worked as News Editor of the school’s official newspaper, The Highland Herald. After spending 10 years in the military, Foster begin pursuing theology and enrolled at Liberty’s Extern Degree program. He took a class in “Faith Writing” offered by Baylor University and taught by writer William Mattox, Jr. Then, he enrolled in Theology in Atlanta Bible College, but pulled out after a year due to of issues with doctrine relating to the school’s affiliation with a denominational.

Foster founded Witness Freedom Ministries in Waco in 1996. The organization began to create programs to help Christian both women and men in the personal issues they face with sexuality. The first conference was held in 1998. Then, in 1999, Foster moved the organization in Atlanta, Georgia with a special focus on people who are of race.

He founded the Restoration Sanctuary Church in Forest Park, Georgia, where he served as pastor from 2001–2008. The church was later renamed Praise Power Ministries.

In June 2007, Foster launched Gay Christian Movement Watch, a controversial blog which began calling attention to the “gay christian movement”.

In his public testimony, Foster has described himself as as a gay person before becoming the first born again Christian in the year 1990. In the following year Foster was ordained as a minister with COGIC. He later “came out” as having been a gay male in the past, and then aired his confession in the church and on a cable public-access channel located in Waco, Texas. He became famous in 1998 when Charisma, the Christian magazine Charisma included him in its 1998 cover story titled “Let’s Stop Hiding From the Pain”.

Foster came from the household that was a part of the Church of God in Christ preachers. The father of Foster was minister in the church, as was his grandfather Ezekiel Foster Sr whom he credits as an influential figure throughout his lifetime. Foster was born within Marlin, Texas, until his graduation , at which point he enlisted for military service in 1982.

Foster was a member of various combat support and infantry units in Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Benning, GA, and the 3rd Armored Division, Germany. Foster was a part of Operation Big Pine II in Honduras in 1983. He was also serving as an US chief of staff driver for one year’s deployment as part of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in El Gorah Egypt from 1984-1985. In August of 1991 the Fort Benning based unit deployed to Operation Desert Storm. Foster was awarded numerous awards and decorations for his service such as the Army Achievement Medal (2nd OLC) as well as the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the extremely rare Kuwait Liberation Medal presented by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Foster was discharged with honor in May 1992.

In 1998, he became associated with the ex-gay movement Exodus International. He became one of the few prominent African American leaders in the ex-gay movement. Foster and other leaders of the movement defend their outreaches as part of the church’s mission to provide help to people who “struggle” with homosexuality.
