Darrell Wayne Bevell (born January 6 1970) is an American football coach. He serves as the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL). Bevell previously held the same position with the Minnesota Vikings from 2006 to 2010, and for the Seattle Seahawks from 2011 to the year 2017. Bevell played football in college at The University of Wisconsin, where the four-year starter was quarterback.

in 2006 Brad Childress was hired as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, and he recruited Bevell to be the offensive coordinator for the Vikings. The year 2009 saw Bevell returned to Brett Favre this time as the offensive coordinator and being the one to call plays. In 2009 the Vikings enjoyed a successful year finishing 12-4 and progressing into the NFC Championship game, ultimately losing in overtime to final Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. In his first season with Favre He racked up 4,202 yards of passing with 33 touchdowns while accumulating a QB score of 107.2 the top of his career. In 2010, the Minnesota season concluded with a 6-10 score, but with terrible decisions throughout the season , in the head coach’s position. Childress was dismissed halfway through the season. He was replaced by the defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier as interim head coach with a 3-7 record and then finishing with a 3-3 record as the acting head coach. In the first week of 2011’s season Bevell was not chosen to remain in the role of offensive coordinator under the new Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier, and was replaced by Bill Musgrave.

In 2012, the Seahawks named Wilson the starting quarterback for the season. The Seahawks finished the season with an 11-5 record, and took 2nd within the NFC West eventually losing in the Divisional round in the playoffs. In Bevell’s second year with the Seahawks, offensively they were 17th in the league which was an improvement from the last season. In rushing the Seahawks were 3rd in league, previously being 21st in 2011, accumulating 2,579 yards and averaging 161.2 yards on the ground.

In 2013, the Seahawks finished the season with a 13-3 record and eventually defeated the Denver Broncos by a score of 43–8 in Super Bowl XLVIII. Bevell’s rushing offense was 4th in the league with 2,188 yards and averaged 136.8 yards per game. Overall in total offense, Bevell’s team finished 18th in the league, producing 339.0 yards per game.

The year 2000 was the time Bevell got a job with The Green Bay Packers as an offensive assistant. In 2003 the year he was promoted quarterbacks coach. In this position, he worked with Brett Favre.

Bevell became the Badgers quarterback of the team in 1992. In 1993 Bevell led the team to a stunning “Cinderella” season. The team finished the year with a 10-1-0 record winning the co-championship of the Big Ten and securing the its first Rose Bowl invitation since 1963. They concluded the season by beating the UCLA Bruins 21-16 in the 1994 Rose Bowl. This was the first time that the school has ever won a Rose Bowl victory. The fourth period of the game in which Wisconsin still holding onto an advantage of 14-10, Bevell made the most memorable game during his time at the university. He was not known for his running skills, Bevell scrambled 21 yards across the left sideline to score an interception.

Looking to upgrade from quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, Bevell scouted Wisconsin senior Russell Wilson. He was one of only a few scouts to attend Wilson’s pro-day, and the Seahawks ultimately drafted him in the third round. Upon selecting Wilson, coach Pete Carroll stated, “It was Bevell’s project”. The Seahawks also obtained Green Bay Packers back-up quarterback Matt Flynn, who many expected to be the starter. During training camp the quarterback competition was thinned out after Jackson was traded to the Buffalo Bills.
