Despite being among the team’s leaders, and thus exempt from the role of domestique, he achieved not had any notable achievements. The most notable thing Cioni did at Liquigas was second place in stage 4 of the 2005 Giro d’Italia, third place in the 2005 Italian National time trial championships and sixth overall in the 2006 Tour de Romandie. In 2007 Cioni was a part of his new team, the Belgian ProTour team Predictor-Lotto. His first win as part of this team came when he took the first stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia, outsprinting his breakaway partner Anton Luengo.

He lives with his family in Montelupo Fiorentino, Tuscany, with his wife. In 2004 Cioni received his degree from his school, the European School of Economics with an honors qualification from the field of International Business with specialisation in sports Management.
