Darin Burton Downs (born December 26 1984) is an American professional baseball player who is an independent agent. His professional career started with the drafting of the Chicago Cubs in 2003. He also played for the Tampa Bay Rays’ minor league and, in that time, he survived an extremely serious concussion. After the 2011 season in the minors of the Florida Marlins organization, Downs was signed to the Tigers. He was promoted to the majors first time on the 3rd the 3rd of July, 2012. Downs was released from on waivers by Houston Astros after the 2013 season.
As of 2006 Downs appeared on again the Boise team, but injuries of his right upper oblique prevented him out of action for a portion of July. Overall, Downs appeared in nine games for the Hawks however, he only made two appearances. The Hawks’ ERA is 4.81 and he recorded an ERA of 4-2. Downs briefly joined Boise’s Arizona League Cubs in August and played in two games before returning to Boise.
Downs played for three separate minor league teams in 2008: Daytona, the Tennessee Smokies and the Vero Beach Devil Rays. He started with Daytona, where he was 2–0 with a 2.89 ERA in 17 relief appearances. Downs then joined Tennessee, where his numbers, 0–2 with a 6.56 ERA in 22 games, were much worse. His time as a Cubs minor league player came to an end in July when he was shipped to the Tampa Bay Rays, who assigned him to Vero Beach. He finished the 2008 season there and in 10 games, had an 0–3 record and a 6.00 ERA.
During the 2009 season, Downs played with the Charlotte Stone Crabs (Single A) and the Montgomery Biscuits (Double A). He was a Florida State League All–Star, making both the midseason and postseason rosters. With Charlotte, Downs posted a 2.00 ERA (best in the Florida State League) and a 12–4 record in 20 games (19 starts). In August, he moved to Montgomery, but after starting and losing a pair of contests, Downs suffered a concussion when he was hit in the head by a line drive. After he was taken to the hospital, doctors doubted whether Downs would live. He had to regain the ability to speak, and also had difficulty with post-concussion syndrome.
Downs was in Boise throughout 2005 and, for the second time in a row season, he played in 14 games with the team, and played in thirteen of those. While with Boise Downs, his ERA fell another time, this time down to 3.50 and his record of wins-loss was 5-4. In his time with the Hawks, Downs also struck out the opposition 63 times. But, he began his season as a member of Peoria Chiefs. Peoria Chiefs, in which he played and lost two games. He posted an exaggerated ERA that was 18.47.

Downs was the fifth-round selection of the Chicago Cubs in June 2003. As a player of the Arizona League Cubs, Downs was in 13 games in his 2003 season in minor leagues. He made 11 starts. He had an earned run rate (ERA) that was 6.57 and had a 2-2 record.
In 2004, Downs played for another Cubs minor league affiliate The Boise Hawks. The Hawks played 14 games in which he pitched, with all except one as the starter. Downs spent majority of the 2013 season in Detroit before going on the 15-day disabled list with rotator cuff tendinitis. He spent two weeks on a rehab assignment before being optioned to Toledo on Aug. 4. After Toledo’s season ended, he returned home to his family, going into “offseason mode.” The Tigers called him up on September 10 where he appeared in the final series against the Miami Marlins.
