On the 19th of July, 1997 Darin Allen faced William Guthrie to claim the vacant IBF World Light Heavyweight title. Guthrie defeated Allen by knockout after the third round. Following the title fight with Guthrie Allen turned 32, and Allen was forced to retire from boxing.
Darin Allen took home an award for gold at the middleweight section of the 1986 World Amateur Boxing Championships, which took place in Reno, Nevada, by defeating East German Henry Maske in the finals.
