Farquhar made his debut in the major leagues the 13th of September, 2011 with the Boston Red Sox. He pitched 3 innings and gave up three earned runs with three hits while walking two without strikeouts. Farquhar was later returned for New Hampshire. The Blue Jays traded Farquhar to the Oakland Athletics along with Trystan Magnuson to acquire outfielder Rajai Davis following this season. He pitched eight innings without even allowing a hit to the Sacramento River Cats of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League (PCL) before the Athletics transferred his services to Blue Jays in exchange for reliever David Purcey on April 18. In exchange, the Blue Jays assigned him to the Las Vegas 51s of the PCL.

Farquhar was a student at Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, Florida, where he played on the baseball team of the school as an outfielder and pitcher.
