On the 25th of August, the 25th of August, Lalhlimpuia was selected into Stephen Constantine’s India squad for the friendly match against Puerto Rico. He made his debut in the match on September 3 in the substitute in the 77th minute of the game in place of Sunil Chhetri. India defeated Cambodia 4-1. On the 22nd of March, 2017. Lalhlimpuia was the first player to appearance for the national team in a friendly game against Cambodia. He started the game in the first half before being substituted midway through the second half to replace Jeje Lalpekhlua. India ended up winning the match 3-2. take the win 3-1.
On 4 August 2016, alongside under-20 teammate Uttam Rai, Lalhlimpuia was loaned to Chennaiyin for the 2016 Indian Super League season as a developmental player. However, Lalhlimpuia wouldn’t join Chennaiyin officially until his parent club, Bengaluru, completed their AFC Cup commitments.
Lalhlimpuia scored his first professional goal for the club on 2 April 2016 in the I-League against Mumbai. He came off the bench in the 75th minute and found the net six minutes later to win the match for Bengaluru 1–0. He then scored his second goal of the season in an AFC Cup match on 25 May 2016 against Kitchee. He scored the winning goal during that match in the 51st minute as Bengaluru won 3–2.
In August of 2013, Lalhlimpuia was called up to the India U20 squad which was scheduled to travel to China and take part in two friendly matches. Later, he was part of the team that took part during the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers. India did not be able to qualify for the event. In August of 2015, Lalhlimpuia was named captain of the under-20 team that participated in the 15th SAFF U-19 Championship. Lalhlimpuia was also part of the team of under- 20s who was part of the 2016 AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers but was unable to qualify.

Lalhlimpuia’s first international experience in football was in 2011, when he was a part of the India U16 team that was to take part in the SAFF U-16 Championship. The player scored two goals in the tournament, as India reached the finals and lost to Pakistan in the final 2-1. Then, he was chosen to be part of the team that would represent India at the 2012 AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers. During the qualifiers Lalhlimpuia and his future Chennaiyin co- player Uttam Rai formed a great relationship from the beginning in the event that India were selected to participate in the actual tournament. In the following year, in the 2012 AFC U-16 Championship, India was the bottom of their groups with winning, but Lalhlimpuia scored a goal in the final match against China.
In the town of Serchhip, Mizoram, Lalhlimpuia began playing football in his community as well as for his school. While playing for the school team, he was asked to try out for a position for the Chandigarh Football Academy which he was successful. The Chandigarh Football Academy, Lalhlimpuia was under the guidance under the guidance of Harjinder Singh. In 2012, at the Administrators Challenge Cup, Lalhlimpuia finished as the tournament’s highest scorer and scored 19 goals. On 20 November 2016, 15 days after being on the bench at the 2016 AFC Cup Final, Lalhlimpuia made his debut for Chennaiyin. He came on as a 22nd-minute substitute for Jeje Lalpekhlua as Chennaiyin drew Atlético de Kolkata 1–1. He would go on to play two more matches for the side before returning to Bengaluru FC.
