The first dance collaboration he had Mussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition, was performed on the Young Vic and Sadlers Wells. Kramer’s radical rethinking of Carmen that was located within Seville, Ohio – played at Opera North and Vlaamse Opera. Kramer developed an award-winning version of King Kong in Melbourne, Australia featuring Esther Hannaford. The production, Tristan and Isolde for the ENO created by Anish Kapoor, was premiered during the 2015/2016 season of opera. The production of his Magic Flute at the Grand Theatre de Geneve was later cancelled from the direction of the Grand Theatre due to the artistic perspective taken by Kramer who wanted to emphasize the violence in the production, while the director preferred an edgier and more traditional style.

In 2008, Kramer was the director of his very first operetta Harrison Birtwistle’s Punch & Judy for the English National Opera at the Young Vic which subsequently played at the Grand Theatre de Geneve. The popular and controversial Bluebeard’s Castle for English National Opera was conducted by Valery Gergiev at his role at the Mariinsky Theatre and Bolshoi Theatre. Kramer and Gergiev later worked together with Gergiev on Pelleas along with Melisande.
