Albas was elected to the ‘Standing Commission on Transportation, Infrastructure and Communities’ as well as the Standing Joint Committee on the Scrutiny of Regulators’. The House of Commons, Albas introduced the Private Members Bill C-311 titled A bill to modify the Importation of Liquors that are Intoxicating (interprovincial entry of wines for personal consumption) (Bill C-311) that would allow people the ability to bring wine into a different province for personal consumption. The current law that dates back to the Prohibition period, allows only province-wide liquor board to allow this.

Bill C-311 passed its first reading the 3rd of October and and second reading was on the 7th of December the 7th of December, 2011. It was endorsed from all parties during the third reading on June 6, 2012.

In March 2011, after Stockwell Day, the MP for Okanagan—Coquihalla for the last 11 years, unexpectedly announced his retirement, a nomination election was held to seek his replacement as the Conservative Party nominee. Albas faced two other candidates: Marshall Neufeld who had worked as Day’s parliamentary assistant and West Kelowna landscaper Russell Ensign. A fourth candidate, Chamber of Commerce president Jason Cox, campaigned but missed the deadline for submitting his nomination papers. The nomination election came under criticism from Conservative Party members for being rushed; the vote was held only 10 days after Day’s announcement leaving several potential candidates unable to participate and leading to accusations that the three candidates had been given advanced notice of events.

On Sept. 19, 2013, he became Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board.

In the local government elections, 31-year-old Albas was a candidate, and came in the first, with 5,656 votes to be a member of the Penticton City Council. Albas became known as the most fiscally-conservative councillor on an already fiscally-conservative council. In addition to the measures approved by the council Albas wanted to prevent having the city buy the cost of a fire rescue boat, restoration of SS Sicamous, landscaping improvements at the South Okanagan Events Centre and the beaches as well as mobile radar speed warnings and the construction of an agricultural centre in the downtown area , and unsuccessfully attempting to delay the hiring of firefighters and to eliminate the 2.1 percentage increase in the salaries of councillors (though the motions were all passed by council despite Albas not supporting these motions). Albas opposed the opening of a the library to the public on Sundays in order in order to avoid the additional cost and opposed increasing the rate of electricity in line with FortisBC increase in rates (the city acquires electricity from FortisBC and then sells it to residents) and also against the requirement that developers working with the city to carry professional liability insurance, even though the council voted to approve all of them. Initiatives Albas initiated or helped with included fines for bylaw enforcement for pan-handling in a rash manner, as well as the keeping of an Canada Post outlet in the downtown area. As a believer that public transportation should be funded by charges for users, he opposed purchasing new buses from BC Transit unless it was funded by increased fares. Later, he tried to increase fares by 25% to pay for operating costs. Albas was criticized as a councillor over his interference in the management of staff members and posting speculations on his blog concerning the the privatization of services for city residents. Albas was appointed director for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen where his success was in reduced the contribution of the Regional District for Okanagan Film Commission by 50%. Okanagan Film Commission by 50 percent. Albas was appointed an alternate director in 2009 and in 2010.
