In the beginning of the 2012-13 season, Lathrope played the team’s two first matches of the season, but he suffered an injury in an 2-2 draw with Cheltenham Town on 22 August 2012. The result was that Lathrope was out of nine matches during September, and then into October. Lathrope returned to the first squad after an injury, playing the entire game in a 3-1 win against Accrington Stanley on October 13 2012. Through the course of the season 2012-13, he returned to his first place in the team and continued to play in thirty games throughout the season in every competition.

At the end of the 2014–15 season, Lathrope went on to make twenty–four appearances and scoring once in all competitions. Following this, he signed a one–year contract extension with the club.

Lathrope made his debut for the club on the 11th of August the 11th of August, 2010, when he was an 112th-minute replacement to Danny Stevens in their League Cup First Round defeat to Reading at Plainmoor. After failing to establish himself during the 2010-11 season, Lathrope was able to claim his spot in the team under the new management that was brought in by Martin Ling, following a formation change to a 4-5-1 that allowed Lathrope to play an assisting role ahead of an attacking back. Lathrope helped the team reach the Football League Two play-off Final and lost by a score of 1-0 to Stevenage. In his first season with Torquay United, Lathrope went to play in 23 games in every competition.
