Dale William Mitchell (born April 21 1958) is a Canadian former professional soccer striker who was a part of numerous North American teams in the 1980s and 1990s.

After his retirement as a player Mitchell became the head coach of the 86ers reserve team and was First-team coach in 1995 until 1999. Mitchell was succeeded by Carl Valentine as the club’s head coach in 1999 after the club was changed to”the Vancouver Whitecaps. From 2001 until 2007 Mitchell was Canada’s under-20 head coach for the national team. He worked as an assistant coach for Frank Yallop, the head coach of his senior national squad in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. He was named as the head coach of the Canadian senior men’s team. The year 2008 was the last time Canada failed to advance beyond CONCACAF Stage III of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, ending up in the so- called CONCACAF Group of Death behind the better-ranked Mexican as well as Honduran teams. Mitchell was removed from his post on the 27th of March, 2009.

Mitchell was also a part of every minute of Canada’s matches during the 1984 Summer Olympics and scored three goals, including the equalizer in the match when Canada defeated Brazil to extra time, and then penalty kicks in the quarterfinals.

Mitchell was a player in the old North American Soccer League. His professional career began as a player for the Vancouver Whitecaps (1977, 1978) Then he played with the Portland Timbers (1979 to 1982) as well as the Montreal Manic (1983). He was a first-team player for Vancouver 86ers Vancouver 86ers of the Canadian Soccer League as well as the American Professional Soccer League for which the team scored 37 goals in seasons from 1988 until 1990, and 1992 until 1994. He was a member of Toronto Blizzard for the 1991 season.
