David “Dai” Greene (born 11 April 1986) is a Welsh hurdler who specializes in the 400m hurdles. He competes internationally for Wales as well as Great Britain. In the “golden” 16-month time period from 2010 to 2011, Greene won the World, European, Diamond League and Commonwealth titles at the event, as well as winning the race in conjunction with both the European Team Championships and the IAAF Continental Cup. Greene is the second fastest British man to complete the 400m hurdles, second only to the British record- holder, Kriss Akabusi.
On the 31st of July, 2010, he was awarded the Gold Medal in the 400m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona alongside his fellow Welshman Rhys Williams getting the silver. On October 10, the 10th of October, 2010, Greene took home the Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
On 1 September 2011, at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Greene won the gold medal, overtaking a strong field in the final straight.
At the Diamond League event in Paris on 6 July 2012, Greene ran a personal best of 47.84 secs in finishing second to Javier Culson to move even closer to the British record in the 400m hurdles. Greene was selected to captain the Great Britain athletics team for the 2012 London Olympics, as one of the favourites for a medal. In the first round of the 400 m hurdles Greene won his heat in 48.98s, the fastest time of round. In the semi-finals Greene ran sluggishly, finishing fourth and only qualifying for the final as a fastest loser. In the final Greene finished fourth behind 2004 Olympic champion Félix Sánchez, surprise American Michael Tinsley and Javier Culson, running slower than he had in the semi-final. Post-race Greene admitted huge disappointment, and blamed disruption to his training caused by a knee injury in the winter. Greene also ran in the final of the 4 × 400 metres relay, as the British team finished fourth, just 0.13 seconds off a medal.
When his coach Blomqvist was forced to leave Sweden due to family reasons In 2009, Greene was transferred into Bath, the University of Bath, to enable him to learn in the direction of his coach Malcolm Arnold, supported by the Wells Sports Foundation. Greene became a part of the team with his fellow Welsh 400m hurdler Rhys Williams, who became his trainer.

After moving from Cardiff to be coach under Benke Blomqvist, Greene had his first triumph in the circuit for junior athletes back in 2005. Greene won an award of silver at the European Athletics Junior Championships, which he won with his personal best that was 51.14 seconds. In the following year, he participated in his first senior competition at the 2006 European Athletics Championships, but the event was not able to get past the heats, with a time that was 50.66 seconds. The success of his age group continued however, when He won an award of gold at the 2007 European Athletics U23 Championships with an all-time best in 49.58 seconds. He defeated Frenchman Fadil Bellaabouss with a small margin to signify a stunning return after a knee injury that forced him to miss six weeks during the season.
In the 2009 season, outdoor events was a great one with Greene making his first appearance in the Senior circuit. In June, he set the meet record and set an all-time personal best of 48.62 seconds to take the 400m hurdles in the Josef Ollozil Memorial, in Prague. It was an impressive improvement over his previous best time of 49.58 seconds, and put Greene the first in the European rankings for the first time. In competition in the competition for Team GB at the 2009 World Championships, Greene won his heat with a dominant first round time in 48.76 seconds. Then he set an all-time personal best in the semi- finals, running 48.27 seconds to finish in second position in front of Bershawn Jackson. He was 7th at the end of the men’s 400m hurdles and was awarded the silver medal for the 4 400 m relay despite only competing in the semi-finals and then being substituted during the competition with Michael Bingham.
In 2011 Greene was named an Ambassador for the Jaguar Academy of Sport.
