Cristobal Emilio “Curro” Torres Ruiz (born 27 December 1976) is a Spanish retired soccer player with a position as right defender, and was the head for CD Lugo.
In his professional life which was plagued by injuries, he was a part of Valencia and helped the team win two La Liga championships (playing in more than 119 matches during the eight seasons, scoring just once) and also the 2003 UEFA Cup. He played for Spain in 2002’s 2002 World Cup.
On 27 July 2009, Torres moved to Gimnàstic de Tarragona in Segunda División, playing no minutes whatsoever in the season (league or cup) as Nàstic finished in 18th position. In January of the following year, after the loan acquisitions of Borja Viguera and Álex Bergantiños by the club, the 34-year- old’s contract was cancelled.
On 7 April 2014, Torres returned to Valencia after nearly five years, being appointed manager of the reserves in Segunda División B. In 2017 he took them to the final round of the play-offs, but was knocked out by Albacete Balompié.
Torres was then back in Valencia after which he went on to be a major player of the teams which have won the national league two times and also the 2003-04 UEFA Cup, again under Benitez. In the early part of 2005 Torres would be severely handicapped by injuries, though Torres played in 17 games during the 2006-07 season, mostly as a left-back, due to Emiliano Moretti’s absence.

Torres started his career at UDA Gramenet before joining Valencia CF in 1997. He was a regular in their B-team during two seasons before later being loaned for Recreativo de Huelva and CD Tenerife over the following two seasons. In the latter, along with Mista Luis Garcia and Mista Luis Garcia, he was one of the key players of the Canary Islands club – coached by Rafael Benitez- that won the promotion up to La Liga.
In the wake of his solid performances playing at Valencia, Torres made his debut for Spain on November 14, 2001, in a friendly game against Mexico on Huelva (1-0 victory) as well as part of 2002’s FIFA World Cup squad, in which he played with South Africa in the group stage.
For 2007–08, Torres was loaned to top level newcomers Real Murcia, where his physical problems resurfaced (two league appearances). Upon their relegation he returned to Valencia, being restricted to two UEFA Cup matches during the season, with even midfielder Hedwiges Maduro being preferred as Miguel’s backup; he left the Che in June 2009.
