To date, both of the elections Creigh Deeds has lost were to his 2005 Attorney General opponent Bob McDonnell, to whom he also lost in the 2009 Gubernatorial race.

The initial result of the vote was 49.96%–49.95%, with Deeds behind by fewer than 350 votes. Due to the closeness of the race’s outcome, Deeds asked for a recount. Judge Theodore Markow of Richmond set the recount for December 20, 2005, a date so close to the inauguration that invitations to the event were mailed without a name for the attorney general to be inaugurated. The recount reaffirmed the earlier outcome, and McDonnell became attorney general.

Deeds were elected in his seat in the Virginia House of Delegates 1991 by beating incumbent Emmett Hanger by 57% to 41 percentage victory. It was the beginning of a nine-year stint as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates.

Robert Creigh Deeds (/”‘ k r i’: born on January 4 in 1958) is an American politician, currently an elected Member of the Senate of Virginia representing the 25th district from 2001. In the past in 2005, he was the Democratic candidate to be Attorney General for Virginia in 2005 as well as Governor in Virginia for Governor of Virginia in 2009. The Governor was defeated both these elections in both races by Republican Bob McDonnell. Deeds was defeated by just 323 votes in 2005 however, he was defeated by a large margin of nearly 18 percent in 2009. He was in the Virginia House of Delegates from the year 1992 until 2001.

Deeds were married to Pamela Miller in February 1981. The couple divorced in February of 2010 with an article from The Washington Post describing the wedding in terms of “a casualty of a nearly 20-year pursuit of a lifelong ambition that kept [Deeds] away from home”.
