He began his career at IF Leikin and moved in 1992 to Laholms FK, which was managed by Janne Andersson. She later became manager and assistant manager for Halmstads BK. He remained in Laholm until 1998, when the club signed him to a contract Halmstads BK.
In the beginning, he was second goalie after Hakan Svensson But after Svensson quit in 2002, Conny was chosen as the first option. After the arrival of Finnish goalkeeper Magnus Bahne in 2007, Conny saw himself once more being second option. After Bahne suffered an injury during the 2007 season, Conny was appointed first goalie as the only goalie who was available. Sahlman was working on loan at Trelleborgs FF before David Loria was brought in.
His first game in Allsvenskan was against GIF Sundsvall, a 2–1 victory.
