Henry (born July 21st in 1963) was an American professional basketball coach and former player. He is his head coach for Adelaide 36ers. Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League (NBL). He played with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and was chosen as the 89th overall selection at the time of the 1985 NBA selection of the Houston Rockets. Henry played for a brief time with 4 National Basketball Association (NBA) teams over two seasons before starting his professional career playing in the American minor leagues and abroad.
Henry started his career in coaching as an assistant coach at Claremont McKenna College before traveling to Australia to join the coaching team for the Perth Wildcats of the NBL which he later became Head Coach for a single season in the 2008-09 season. Henry was back in the United States to join the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League as an assistant coach. After two seasons with D-Fenders, he was named as the head coach at the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in 2013 and was named as the NBA D-League Coach of the Year following his debut season. Henry worked as an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic of the NBA during the 2015-16 season.
He was a 6’7″ (203 cm), 195 lb (89 kg) shooting guard and from 1982 to 1986 played college basketball for the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he scored 1,236 points.
He was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 19th pick of the fourth round in the 1986 NBA Draft. Throughout his short NBA career from 1986–88 he played with the Rockets, Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks and Sacramento Kings. Henry also played for the Rapid City Thrillers and the Yakima Sun Kings of the CBA. In 1990, he was voted as the CBA Player of the Year as well as the CBA All- Star game MVP. Then in 1992 he played in the first CBA All-Star Game held in the Pacific Northwest, of which he was named Most Valuable Player once again after hitting four-of-seven three-pointers, the most made in such an event since 1970. After his NBA career he spent 10 years playing professionally in Italy, Spain, France and Greece before returning to Montana, US.
Following his retirement, he worked as an assistant coach at Division III’s Claremont McKenna College (where his father was an instructor at the college) in his home town from Claremont, California. He also was the director of the career center which helped students find work. He was in the center for five years up to 2006 when he was tapped as the assistant coach of Australia’s NBL’s Perth Wildcats under head coach and former college teammate Scott Fisher. After Scott Fisher was let go by for the Wildcats, Henry became coach for the 2008/09 season. In 2010, Conner joined the newly formed Sydney Kings (Australian NBL) as an assistant coach along with Ian Robilliard. He was later promoted to assistant coach for the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League.
