Trueman was able to make the Football League debut in the starting eleven in the opening game of Birmingham’s 2018-19 season which ended in a draw of 2-2 at home against Norwich City in the Championship and, despite the addition of experienced Lee Camp kept his place during the trip to Middlesbrough. In Birmingham Mail, according to Birmingham Mail, Trueman “had no chance with a superbly struck goal but [was] all at sea on a couple of occasions”, and Camp was in charge during the subsequent game as well as the remainder seasons, and Trueman playing regularly as a bench player. With Birmingham free of relegation the goalkeeper was set to begin the final game of the season away to Reading However, illness prevented him from making it to the pitch.

Trueman was included in the subs. He was kept as a matchday player for another four league games while Kuszczak was recovering. He signed a three-year contract in May of 2017.
